Minha estreia no sambódromo

A oportunidade apareceu tão rápido que não deu tempo nem de pagar a câmera. Quando dei por mim, estava vendo os carros da Indy passarem diante de meus olhos.

O primeiro que vi foi o de Dario Franchitti, eu ainda estava dentro do ônibus que me levou rapidamente da estação Tietê ao circuito. Não posso reclamar da organização. Staff bem informado e atencioso, muitas placas de orientação. Várias opções de alimentação, banheiros em quantidade suficiente. Não estava lotado, como deve estar amanhã, mas, a continuar assim, terá sido um sucesso.

Durante o último treino da GT, aproveitei para circular pelos setores e, paralelo ao fim da reta, pude ver os carros literalmente pulando na passagem do concreto para o asfalto. Parei para observar. Pouco depois, um segurança educadamente me disse que não era permitido 'ficar parado' naquele lugar. Kafkianeidades. Mas era possível ver os carros atrás do alambrado na reta oposta, aquela da marginal Tietê. Um amigo me disse que, no ano passado, havia tapumes que encobriam a visão do espectadro. Bem, eles não estão mais lá, e ver os carros rasgando a reta a menos de cinco metros de você é indescritível.

Apesar da segurança atenciosa, um torcedor que estava ao meu lado confidenciou a outro que um amigo dele, sem credencial, havia conseguido entrar no paddock. Ele próprio havia tentado algumas vezes, sem sucesso.

Um problema incômodo, também, do setor B, é que quem fica nos andares superiores não consegue ouvir os alto-falantes.

Problemas, enfim, sempre existem. Tentarei registrar minha experiência in loco da Indy em outros posts, em breve.

A entediante briga "Lotus vs Lotus", há algumas semanas adormecida, voltou à pauta recentemente devido à aquisição da fabricante inglesa Caterham por Tony Fernandes. A empresa tinha laços estreitos com Colin Chapman, e Fernandes agora deverá colocar em prática seus planos de fabricar carros em série.

A questão sobre o nome Lotus deve ter o veredicto anunciado pela corte britânica já no mês que vem. Seja como for, (e Fernandes deve levar a melhor,) parece um problema mais cosmético do que substancial. Pois a Lotus, a verdadeira Lotus, me parece mais bem representada nesta foto de 1964: um carro, rodeado por um grupo de pessoas apaixonadas pelo esporte a motor, aclamada pelo público - em especial, pelos ingleses.

As duas "Lotus" atuais brigam pelo invólucro do peso simbólico que Colin Chapman deixou. São apenas cinco letras. O que importa, na verdade, é aquilo que se escreve sobre a pista.

Dez anos sem Alboreto

Completa uma década hoje o acidente que matou Michele Alboreto, na época ex-piloto de Fórmula 1 e piloto do protótipo da Audi. Sua equipe realizava testes no circuito alemão recém-inaugurado de Lausitz. O ocorrido não teve testemunhas. Em meio à reta, o modelo R8 perdeu o contato com o solo, voou cerca de 100m e colidiu contra o alambrado. O piloto morreu na hora.

O resgate chegou ao local dois minutos após o acidente. O helicóptero, pouco depois. Os indícios apontam para uma falha mecânica, provavelmente o furo de um pneu, isentando assim Alboreto ou o autódromo de qualquer responsabilidade.

Com 44 anos, Alboreto deixou a mulher, Nadia, e duas filhas.

Sua morte é a pedra no sapato da gloriosa trajetória do R8, com o qual o italiano havia vencido em Sebring semanas antes, e que emplacaria uma série de primeiros lugares consecutivos nas 24 Horas de Le Mans.

Alboreto havia despontado no início dos anos 80, nas categorias de base europeias. Contratado pela Tyrrell, venceu duas provas entre 82 e 83 e ingressou na Ferrari no ano seguinte. Foi vice-campeão em 1985. Deixou a equipe de Maranello em 88 e vagou por times menores até se aposentar da Fórmula 1 em 94, a bordo de uma Minardi.

Mas seu grande ano foi mesmo 1985. Aliás, a primeira metade daquele ano, quando venceu no Canadá e na Alemanha. Seu desempenho mais inspirado, porém, não lhe deu o primeiro lugar: foi no GP de Mônaco, quando chegou em segundo. Assumira a liderança com o abandono de Senna, perdeu-a para Prost a escorregar no óleo de um acidente, apenas para ultrapassar o francês.

Um pneu furado o obrigou a entrar nos boxes e, quando saiu, enfrentou todos os que estavam na sua frente. O momento mais bonito talvez tenha sido a briga temerária com Andrea de Cesaris. Mas ver é mais legal que ler descrições. Por isso, segue um vídeo da corrida:

O pódio que derrubou a Turquia

A Turquia foi o centro do noticiário sobre Fórmula 1 esta semana. Não, porém, porque será a próxima etapa do campeonato, mas porque pode abandonar de vez o calendário da categoria.

Alegam os organizadores que a taxa cobrada por Ecclestone pela renovação do contrato é extorsiva. E é verdade. Mas o mal-estar entre Istambul Park e a Fórmula 1 é bem anterior à negociação. Data de 2006.

Começou com o fim da corrida. O autódromo havia acabado de ver a primeira vitória de Felipe Massa. O clima no pódio era de expectativa, mas não apenas pela festa do brasileiro: os promotores do GP haviam anunciado na última hora a autoridade responsável por entregar o truféu ao primeiro colocado. E enfim ele apareceu, Mehmet Ali Talat, definido pela transmissão como "presidente da República Turca do Chipre do Norte". Cumprimentou o brasileiro, deu-lhe a taça.

A FIA não demorou a notar o problema. O tal país não é reconhecido por nenhuma outra autoridade. A Turquia havia usado a Fórmula 1 para demarcar suas zonas de influência e afirmar soberania frente aos vizinhos. Isso, a categoria não tolera.

A federação, sob sua política de neutralidade, fez uma algazarra infernal e aplicou uma multa milionária nos organizadores.

O resto da história, todos conhecemos. O incidente afastou o apoio governamental do evento (aparentemente, a propaganda político-militar era a única parte interessante do GP para o governo) e a economia turca não foi capaz de sustentá-lo por si só. Arquibancadas ficavam inteiras às moscas em pleno domingo, como Nelsinho Piquet fez questão de fotografar durante a driver's parade de 2007.

O elogiado traçado pós-moderno-barra-eclético erguido por Hermann Tilke a um custo absurdo virou um elefante branco. A MotoGP correu lá algumas vezes e desistiu. Agora, ao que tudo indica, veremos no dia 6 os carros passando pela última vez pela curva 8.

Because the Super Chief offers these choices drivers have the comfort of knowing they can still find fuel as the ethanol and hydrogen infrastructures are developing. In a tri-flex fueling system owners can utilize any or all of these fueling options using the same engine and only the flip of a switch.
The tri-flex fueling system on the Ford F-250 Super Chief allows operators to go 500 miles between total refueling with the supercharger activated only when using the hydrogen fueling system. The hydrogen system also provides 400 lb.-ft. of torque. The transfer between fueling options is performed through a switching system onboard and can be accomplished while the vehicle is running. The hydrogen based fuel alternative boasts 12-percent greater fuel efficiency when compared to either of the remaining fueling options. Using hydrogen also provides 99-percent less CO2 emissions than the gasoline-only option.

Campionatul Mondial de Raliuri - un nou record

Sebastien Ogier a câştigat Raliul Iordaniei cu o diferenţă de doar 0,2 secunde în faţa rivalului de Ford, Jari-Matti Latvala. Este cea mai mică diferenţă din istoria Campionatului Mondial de Raliuri.


Iordania nu anunţa nimic spectaculos fiind un raliu scurtat din cauza problemelor de logistică . Dar la finalul celor două zile de concurs, după ce prima zi a fost anulată,diferenţa dintre cei doi piloţi din vârful clasamentului avea săfie de doar două zecimi de secundă. Este cel mai mic ecart înregistrat vreodată în istoria Campionatului Mondial de Raliuri.

Raliul a fost decis în ultima probă specială a cursei . Latvala era lider cu jumătate de secundă înainte de Power Stage. Proba avea 10 km şi avea să fie câştigată de Sebastien Ogier. Mikko Hirvonen termina cu acelaşi timp dar, finlandezul era departe în clasament. Latvala avea să meargă la limită dar termina la o diferenţă de 0,7 secunde de Ogier. Cu ocazia Salonului de Autovehicule Comerciale de la Birmingham, inginerii Ford şi-au permis să devieze de la ideea de utilitară, creând un exemplar unic: Ford Transit SuperSportVan. Un fel de dubă supersport...


Ford Transit este printre cele mai cunoscute maşini de marfă din lume, iar reputaţia acestei denumiri este la cote foarte înalte. Inginerii diviziei de maşini utilitare Ford s-au gândit că nu ar fi rău să se "joace" puţin cu această maşină, aşa încât, acum 4 ani au prezentat o versiune pregătită parcă pentru curse: Ford Transit SportVan.

Era vorba, însă, doar de un machiaj în spirit racing, precum şi de mici modificări ale trenului de rulare, deoarece motorul era acelaşi TDCi Duratorq de 130 CP, disponibil şi pe versiunile normale de marfă. Totuşi, atracţia consta în numărul de exemplare: doar 500 de modele urmau a fi produse.

Acum, inginerii Ford recidivează cu un upgrade al acelui model, de data aceasta fiind vorba despre un unicat: Ford Transit SuperSportVan. GP da China 2011 - O piloto que quase perdeu


Talvez tenha sido pelo fato de as equipes ainda não saberem lidar direito com a nova parafernália da Fórmula 1 2011, suas asas móveis, pneus frágeis e kers. Mas o fato é que o GP da China foi uma grande incógnita. Na metade da corrida, eram ao menos cinco os pilotos que poderiam levar a vitória.

Isso porque a prova não foi uma disputa entre pilotos o tempo todo. Foi uma disputa entre estratégias (duas ou três paradas?), entre os projetos dos carros (até que ponto o desempenho nas retas determinará o vencedor?). Evitar o tráfego ou encará-lo? Gastar ou pneus na largada ou nas últimas voltas antes do pit stop?

As respostas não são tão simples. Hamilton fez três paradas, a última delas bem tarde, e teve pneu suficiente para ultrapassar um pelotão no fim da prova. Mas onde, exatamente, ele ganhou?

Mais fácil de responder é: onde ele quase perdeu? O inglês poderia ter posto tudo abaixo na classificação, largando atrás do companheiro. Também poderia tê-lo feito na largada, quando, mais rápido que Button, teve deixá-lo escapar para aguentar a pressão de Vettel atrás de si.

Como agravante, a McLaren quase o deixou na mão minutos antes do alinhamento, quando seu carro apresentou um vazamento em pleno box - ele saiu dos boxes, sem parte da carenagem, meio minuto antes de os pits fecharem.

Ao longo do percurso, seu desempenho foi extremamente irregular. Outros, que pareciam ter dado o pulo do gato, como Nico Rosbertg e Felipe Massa, porém, foram engolidos pelo pelotão no trecho final das 56 voltas.

Ao que tudo indica, foi aí que Hamilton realmente começou a vencer. Mais especificamente, quando superou Button, e iniciou uma caça a todos os que estavam á sua frente. Sua desenvoltura ao ultrapassar, aliás, é uma das principais características que o diferenciam de seu companheiro de equipe. Numa corrida saturada de pneus, de kers e de asas móveis, o vencedor foi aquele que mostrou ter o melhor braço.

De la Frontera


Uma das chegadas mais incríveis da história do automobilismo mundial completa hoje 25 anos. Foram 14 milésimos de segundo entre a Lotus de Senna (à esq.) e a Williams de Mansell, mas cujo frio na espinha se estende ao tempo presente.

Os momentos passam; restam os lugares. Hoje se completam, também, os 25 anos da primeira prova no circuito de Jerez de la Frontera. Incrustado numa região mais famosa pelos seus vinhos que pelos seus carros, a pista surgiu como uma alternativa aos barões locais de levantar a economia andaluz nos combalidos tempos pré-União Europeia.

No rastro da busca por maior segurança - tendência fotalecida pela morte de Gilles Villeneuve -, os arquitetos desenharam um traçado travado, em cuja maior reta não cabiam mais que 600, cheio de curvas, a maioria lenta.

Uma reportagem da Folha de S.Paulo da época (dia 12/4/1986, descrevendo os treinos de sexta) comenta a ideia original: "Segundo cálculos da epoca do projeto do autódromo, os tempos dos carros da Fórmula 1 ficariam em torno de 1m52s, o que representaria uma média de 134 km/h. Jerez seria, então, o circuito mais lento da F-1, superando até mesmo o traçado de rua da cidade de norte-americana de Detroit".

Chutaram longe, pois a pole foi obtida com média de 186 km/h. A média do vencedor, ao fim da prova, foi de 167 km/h.

Mais adiante, na matéria da Folha: "As instalações do autódromo espanhol impressionaram todos os pilotos, mas o estado da pista não acompanhou a sofisticação do resto, deixando a desejar e merecendo inúmeras críticas".

A desaprovação foi unânime quando, na volta 12, Stefan Johansson perdeu os freios e estampou a proteção de pneus de um cotovelo. A assistência ao sueco demorou muito, apesar de uma das novidades de Jerez ser justamente uma pista auxiliar, por onde trafegariam os carros de serviço.

A Fórmula 1 continuou a realizar seu GP da Espanha lá até 1990, mas nunca atraiu grande interesse. Por outro lado, o local se tornou reduto das corridas de moto. Algumas alterações de traçado depois, desentortando alguns trechos, seguida por dois GPs da Europa, hoje o lugar sobrevive como sede de testes de pré-temporada.

Nunca foi amada, mas suas sucessoras espanholas no calendário dos Grands Prix, Barcelona e Valência, tampouco o foram.

Perigo de disputa

E assim terminou o GP da Malásia. Quando todos acreditavam ter em mãos os resultados consolidados, os comissários registram punições de tempo a Lewis Hamilton (foto) e Fernando Alonso.

Ambos disputavam diretamente uma posição dez voltas antes do fim da prova. Na volta 45, alega-se, Hamilton mudou de direção mais de duas vezes para se proteger do ataque da Ferrari. No giro seguinte, o espanhol se viu acusado de causar a colisão entre seu carro e a McLaren.

Nada de manifestação imediata dos comissários na torre. Nenhum drive-through aplicado - as punições por acréscimo de tempo só ocorrem se houver menos de três voltas, salvo engano, para o fim da corrida.

De uma prova cheia (para os padrões atuais) de disputas, que pareciam ter saído incólumes dos olhos da direção de prova, duas condenações foram aplicadas (exemplarmente?) a dois campeões mundiais.

Será esse o recado que o corpo técnico da Fórmula 1 quer passar aos fãs e, mais importante, aos pilotos da categoria? "Ultrapassem, mas só nos lugares onde queremos e com os recursos que nós inventamos (a saber, os pit stops e as asas móveis - que não estavam funcionando no carro de Alonso)". Todo toque será castigado.

O GP da Malásia, salvo todas as críticas ao regulamento e aos pneus Pirelli já publicadas neste espaço, teve todos os ingredientes de uma boa prova: carros com desempenhos variados ao longo do percurso, provocando disputas diretas por posições. Caso a mentalidade dos dirigentes não acompanhe essa dinâmica de corrida, será que tudo isso vai ter adiantado alguma coisa?
